This Week in Tokyo and Shuzenji – 7 June 2022
This week I spent most of my time in Tokyo, but the weekend took me to Shuzenji, coming back to Tokyo just in time for the start of rainy season!
Top of the pops: Baseball season is in full swing, and by some miracle, my beloved Tokyo Yakult Swallows are in first place! Despite this success I haven’t caught a win in my last few visits to Jingu Stadium. The Swallows are currently 4 games ahead of cross-town rivals the Yomiuri Giants. Of course, now that I’ve posted about it I’ve jinxed everything. Superstition aside, could we actually retain our Central League championship and Japan Series crown this season? Regardless, I cannot wait for the borders to properly open and take you all to a game. We continue…

THE Tokyo: That’s right, not a Tokyo. This adult-only clothing store specialises in Japanese brands. The smart boutique is located on Nakadori in the upscale business and retail neighbourhood of Marunouchi.

Happy Baird Beer Birthday!: Congratulations to Baird Brewing on the 8th anniversary of the Shuzenji Brewery and Taproom! I had a large weekend at Camp Baird playing Cornhole, listening to live music and hanging out with legends like founder Bryan Baird, all the while enjoying all-you-can-drink Baird Beer in a limited edition tumbler!

When Dave met Mac: Dave discovered Aloha Whisky after watching my Kanpai Planet videos. We connected on Twitter & he’s been a great supporter. Tonight we finally met! A true gent – all the best with the new baby and promotion double-header!
BTW, whisky aficionados will notice that this post is ‘sponsored’ by the UK’s Bimber Distillery and Japan’s Chichibu Distillery!

That time I was in a Government of Japan tweet: ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED. Yes, the tweet dropped on 26 May, but I only shared it on the Kanpai Planet social media platforms one week ago, and people have been sending me congratulatory messages ever since!
Thanks to Maction Planet Shochu Tour host Christopher Pellegrini for everything he is doing in the shochu and awamori space around the world. We continue… and Kanpai!
