This Week in Tokyo – 6 December 2022
Welcome to ‘This Week in Tokyo’, a review of the Maction Planet week that was and a look ahead to what’s coming up in the city. Hosted by Mac, our Founder and Lead Guide, you can check out photos from our tours and read insights into our explorations as we get under the skin of the World’s Greatest Metropolis, and beyond!
This week:, I have decided to focus on an art exhibition close to my heart, held by Immigration Museum Tokyo.
For the second year in a row, they are holding a multinational art exhibition, and this year’s has the title, “Cultural BYO…Ne!” It refers to Bring Your Own – yes, as in drinks and other items to parties and restaurants. People with overseas backgrounds have brought together their creations – paintings, crafts, videos, traditional music, dishes made with memorable spices etc. – showcasing a wide variety of artwork and daily life.
As an advocate of global citizenship, this exhibition really resonated with me. Here are five of my favourite works from the show:
Featured image: ‘Sunset at terraced rice fields of Hamanoura’ and ‘The way back home’ by Yayu Wang.
