New Year’s Day 2020 at Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea
明けましておめでとうございます (Akemashite Omedetou Gozaimasu)! The 2020 New Year’s Program is being held at Tokyo Disney Resort from January 1 through 5, 2020. There are New Year’s Greetings parades, limited edition merchandise, seasonal foods and special park decorations. Mac, Founder and Lead Guide of Maction Planet was there to check out New Year’s Day 2020 at Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea, courtesy of our friends at TDR Explorer. Learn more about the New Year’s special events and watch the video he made here!
Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea’s New Year’s Event is the shortest of all the special events there – in 2020 it runs from 1 January to January 5. Despite the short timeframe there is still a lot going on. Rather appropriately 2020 is the Year of the Mouse and Disney have definitely capitalised on this!
- The annual New Year’s Greeting returned to the parade route at Tokyo Disneyland and the waters of Mediterranean Harbor at Tokyo DisneySea. The Greeting features the Disney Friends in traditional Japanese kimono, welcoming guests to the New Year! There are two daily performances at each park.
- At the entrance to the parks the traditional New Year’s kadomatsu decorations feature Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse.
- Roughly 60 different limited edition New Year’s items are available, on sale from 2 December 2019 until 8 January 2020. These feature Mickey Mouse writing the Japanese letter for the zodiac character of the year, Disney Friends in traditional Japanese attire, and the mouse-style daruma good luck doll!
- I also tried some of the season food, namely the White Sesame Mousse and Brown Sugar Syrup Jelly which costs ¥800 and comes with a souvenir cup. These design featuring Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse in kimono and the character ‘ね’ (‘ne’), short for nezumi (mouse)! Act fast as this is only available until 8 January 2020 while supplies last.
I made a video documenting New Year’s Day 2020 at Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea. Watch the greetings, check out the merch, limited-time decorations and special foods PLUS character meet-and-greets, my favourite parts of the parks and much more. Watch here:
