Maction Planet x Matt Frank Apparel Launch
Maction Planet is proud to announce the launch of a new T-shirt design from superstar artist Matt Frank featuring an exclusive brand-new character, the first in an ongoing collaboration.
Most well-known for his Godzilla work, Matt Frank has been a frequent visitor to Tokyo, and his exclusive design for Maction Planet, featuring an all-new kaiju called ‘Goriwhale’ created exclusively for this project, has been inspired by The World’s Greatest Metropolis.
“I first met Mac at an event in Tokyo in 2016. I could immediately tell that he was extremely friendly and enthusiastic, and I was especially pleased when he asked me to produce a shirt for him. I had an idea knocking around in my head for a while now, featuring a funny original monster, and I felt like this was the perfect opportunity!” said Matt.
“I cannot convey my excitement that we are working with Matt. I have been a huge fan of his for a long time and am lucky to own several commissions from him in my comic book art collection” said Mac, Founder of Maction Planet. “To have Matt create an all-new kaiju for us is a dream come true. ”
A special “Mac on Tokyo” interview with Matt accompanies the launch, in which Matt discusses the inspiration behind his exclusive design, his career and his love of Tokyo. It is available to read on the Maction Planet blog.
All shirts are made from 100% premium ringspun cotton, and are available in Men’s/Unisex and Women’s styles at shop.mactionplanet.com. All shirts will be fully branded with exclusive ‘Maction Planet x Matt Frank’ labelling.
This is Maction Planet’s eighth collection and fifth major collaboration, following the launch of highly popular lines created with Livio Ramondelli, Marika, Ramen Adventures and Shochu.Pro.
The T-shirt will retail for ¥3,990. As with all Maction Planet Apparel, international delivery is available.

About Matt Frank
Since 2011, Matt Frank has been known in both Japan and America as the “Kaiju King,” becoming the fan-favorite artist for all things giant and monstrous! His first official foray into the Godzilla franchise was as a cover artist for Godzilla: Kingdom of Monsters for IDW Publishing, and he continued to make covers for Godzilla: History’s Greatest Monster in 2012. By 2013, he headlined the 25 issue series, Godzilla: Rulers of Earth, the longest running Godzilla comic ever published, as a story co-developer, cover artist, and lead interior artist, and the series became an instant classic among fans. Though Godzilla will always be his first love, Matt is also an accomplished Transformers artist, beginning with The Beast Wars Sourcebook as a character illustrator, and also providing interiors for Transformers Animated: The Rise of Safeguard, Transformers Spotlight: Trailcutter, Mars Attacks the Transformers, and numerous titles for both IDW and Fun Publications. Matt even created 4 new Transformers characters, the Raptoricons, for the Official Transformers Collector’s Club in 2016. The Texan artist’s work can also be found in G-Fan Magazine, the Ray Harryhausen Presents comics from Blue Water Productions, and several Power Rangers comic covers and posters. Matt also designed the title character for the Project Nemesis novels as well as well as other creatures in the works of Jeremy Robinson. Most recently, Matt has illustrated ‘Godzilla: Rage Across Time’ #1 in 2016, earning him much critical praise. In an exciting turn of events, ‘Godzilla: Rulers of Earth’ was launched in Japan in late 2016 to a newfound fan base who eagerly embraced it, making it the first of IDW’s Godzilla titles to have a Japanese language edition, with new collaboration covers by Matt and various Japanese artists! In the summer of 2017, Matt made an exclusive poster celebrating the American home video release of Shin Godzilla by Funimation, and is also a featured commentator on the blu-ray special features. In October 2017, Matt partnered with Maction Planet to launch a T-shirt featuring an all-new kaiju, Goriwhale, created exclusively for them,
