Katsu Curry Cooking Class with Nahoko and Mac
Following the sell-out success of their previous online cooking classes, Maction Planet is proud to announce a new Online Interactive Katsu Curry Cooking Class and Talk Show on 11 October 2020 featuring Mac, Founder and Lead Guide of Maction Planet, and Nahoko from At Home with Nahoko Cooking Classes.
On 11 October 2020, Mac and Nahoko will hold a very special online Katsu Curry cooking class. This class is suitable for omnivores and vegetarians. We will be using chicken, but you can easily swap that out for a number of delicious meat substitutes.
What is Katsu Curry?
Pork katsuretsu (fried pork cutlet) was invented in Japan in 1899 at a Tokyo restaurant called Rengatei and was originally considered a type of yoshoku (a Japanese version of European cuisine). The dish has gone on to evolve into many variations that include chicken, fish and vegetables.
Curry was introduced to Japan by the British in the Meiji era. Japanese-style curry differs from Indian-style curry, it is typically sweeter and less spicy, but you can fully customise yours to your taste!
Together, Mac and Nahoko will teach you how to make Katsu Curry using ingredients you can get easily in your country. Using these skills you can actually make a number of variations! You can change the meat or use a meat substitute for your cutlet, and serve that without the curry to enjoy the traditional Katsu Teishoku (lunch set). Or you can make the famous Japanese Curry Rice – one of our ultimate comfort foods!

Entertaining and Educational
Nahoko started Japanese cooking classes for foreign travellers to Tokyo three years ago, and since then has taught over 250 students from all over the world. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, she has recently switched to hosting online classes via Zoom which have proven to be extremely popular.
Mac will talk about Japanese food culture and share many stories about life in Japan, bringing his expertise on Japanese culture, history, food and drink, baseball, sumo, music… As Nahoko says, “Even I am constantly learning from him and I am from Japan!”
This is an interactive class, different from anything on Instagram Live or YouTube. You will be able to converse with Mac and Nahoko during the class. You can ask us questions about Japan and your cooking during the class. All of the participants can show each other their Katsu Curry. We will all be saying ‘itadakimasu‘ and eating our Katsu Curry at the same time.
The prior classes have proven extremely popular. Here is a Tripadvisor review from Karen in London, UK, who joined our Chirashi Sushi cooking class:
Fun and delicious! You can feel like you are in Tokyo. Don’t miss it!
